This week on his BBC Radio 2 show, Jamie Cullum chats to seminal jazz vocalist Mark Murphy, who has been embraced in musical realms such as acid jazz and modern dance music. They speak about Mark’s upbringing in a family of singers and how he was first turned on to jazz through the music of Art Tatum.

As one of the most inventive lyricists of instrumental standards, the pair discuss Mark’s process for putting lyrics to songs. You can listen to the show on BBC iPlayer until 12th June.

This week on his BBC Radio 2 show, Jamie Cullum chats to American jazz vocalist and composer Carmen Lundy. She talks about what it was like growing up in a musical family, alongside her famous bass player brother Curtis and gospel singer mother.

Carmen also discusses her latest album, Changes, and how she has managed to maintain her creativity after nearly three decades of recording albums.

Also this week, Jamie returns to the BBC archives to dig out a recording of Abdullah Ibrahim, the South African pianist and composer, performing on the TV show Ebony back in January 1986.
