Nostalgia 77 Joins Jamie Cullum On His Show

This week Jamie is joined by Ben Lamdin from one of his favourite electronic jazz acts Nostalgia 77. The pair chat about Ben’s journey from his record collecting beginnings, to using those found sounds to create his own music, and going on to work with some of the best names in UK jazz.

Ben also shares an exclusive first listen of a new Nostalgia 77 track fresh from the studio!

This week on Jamie Cullum’s BBC Radio 2 show, he features UK soul singer Alice Russell, producer and musician Quantic, and their full band the Combo Bárbaro in session at the BBC Maida Vale Studios. They play tracks from their first full collaborative album and one of Jamie’s favourite releases of the year so far, Look Around The Corner.

Jamie Cullum chats to Jasper Høiby!

This week on his BBC Radio 2 show, Jamie Cullum meets up with Jasper Høiby, the bassist and founder of London-based jazz trio, Phronesis. The pair discuss the reasons Jasper picked up the bass guitar, which led to him starting the reputable jazz trio Phronesis.

They also talk about his latest release, which came about from playing concerts in total darkness in dedication to Jasper’s visually impaired sister.

Special guests such as jazz vocalist Gregory Porter, modern blues artist C.W. Stoneking, and a host of other acts performing at the event, join Jamie on the show, as he brings you a full flavour of the festival.

On this weeks Jamie Cullum show on BBC Radio 2 he features one of his favourite British jazz bands, London-based modern jazz outfit Empirical. They perform some music from their latest record Elements of Truth, released in 2011 on Naim Jazz.

The young quartet introduce the tracks, explaining how they take influences from outside jazz, and tell us why they love playing jazz live. You can listen again to the show on BBC iPlayer until Tuesday 21st February.

Zoe Rahman in session on Jamie Cullum’s show

British jazz composer and pianist Zoe Rahman recorded a session at the BBC Maida Vale studios for Jamie Cullum’s show for BBC Radio 2. The session features tracks from her forthcoming album ‘Kindred Spirits’.

As well as her personal music projects, Zoe Rahman works with the likes of Courtney Pine and Clark Tracey’s New Quintet plus other projects within the UK jazz scene and abroad.

Also on the show Jamie plays his usual great mix of music rooted in jazz and has a chat with Jo Wiley about BBC Introducing.
